Around Caloundra

About the Area

Just one hour’s drive north of Queensland’s capital, Brisbane, you’ll find Caloundra on the southern tip of the Sunshine Coast.

Caloundra is a favourite destination for families who want a relaxed beach holiday, but it is much more than just beautiful beaches. Caloundra offers a vibrant and diverse holiday experience to cater for all ages.

The Glass House Mountains, a stunning series of 13 volcanic crags rising to the sky, provide a dramatic backdrop to Caloundra and challenge rock climbers and bushwalkers of all levels.

Australia Zoo at nearby Beerwah is home to the internationally famous ‘Crocodile Hunter’ and delivers an once-in-a-lifetime, up close and personal encounter with crocodiles and a range of other exciting Australian native animals.

A little further inland, the rolling green hills of The Blackall Range provides visitors with stunning coastal views, colourful roadside fruit stalls and the chance to immerse themselves in a hive of creative activity at the cafes, art and antique galleries and craft studios of Maleny and Montville.

Back to the beach, Caloundra has options aplenty, from long, sandy surf beaches to small rocky coves, sheltered bays and calm boating, fishing and windsurfing waters. No matter which way the prevailing winds are blowing, there will always be at least one sheltered beach with safe swimming conditions and the chance to stroll the shores, picnic by the sea and enjoy games of cricket on the beach.

Back on dry land, there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained. Browse your way along the boutiques, stores and cafes of Caloundra’s main Bulcock Street, sip a coffee on the city's seafront boardwalk, visit the Stockland Shopping Centre and Kawana Shoppingworld or check out the weekend markets. Caloundra also has a great range of award-winning clubs, restaurants, bars and bistros.

If you are looking for something more active, you can tee off on the Greg Norman designed Pelican Waters golf course or relive the thrills of early aviation at the Queensland Air Museum with its unique collection of old fighter planes, bombers and jet trainers.

Whatever your reason for coming to Caloundra, you are sure to leave us refreshed and relaxed.
